Makeup Junkie: Six Months of Empties…Oh My! Part I: Skin Care

Somehow, I collected six months (!) of empties.  My intentions were good…at one month, I thought, “Well, that’s not nearly interesting enough.”  And, at two months, “Still not quite enough…maybe next month.”  And, now, its somehow six months and nearly a full paper grocery bag later.  I don’t collect foil packets unless the item comes that way, but there are several deluxe samples – I’ll give the item name, a brief impression, and let you know whether I would repurchase the item again.  Your experience with these same products may be different than mine – that’s great!  Its great that there are so many products out there that we can all find what works best for us.  Having said that, if you have recommendations or suggestions, I’ll take them!

I broke up the products by category to make these more manageable – for both you and me! Let’s start at the very beginning – with skincare.

Clear Improvement [Origins] – I have used this charcoal mask for several years, and I will repurchase it (once I get through some other products that I need to use).

Truffle Therapy Cream [Skin & Co Roma] – I loved the smell of this, and it definitely left my skin feeling hydrated.  I would definitely consider repurchasing, but if I had to choose between the cream and the serum (below), I would choose the serum.

Truffle Therpy Serum [Skin & Co Roma] – My favorite serums are the Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster [Ole Henriksen]and the Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Vitamin C+ Serum [Algenist]; this serum would definitely be considered for third place.  A heads up to those with sensitive noses – both this and the cream (above) have a strong not-unpleasant smell, but it does fade quickly.

Angelica UV Shield SPF40 [L’Occitane] – This was my favorite sunscreen for face, but its been discontinued. The titanium dioxide did a great job of blocking the sun, but my skin felt smooth and hydrated after application.  I’m still looking for the ideal replacement, and would love to hear your suggestions!

Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads [Peter Thomas Roth] – To be honest, PTR products are hit or miss for me.  This was a miss, and it took a very long time to use these up.  I would not repurchase.

LiftActiv Nuit [Vichy] – This was okay but not much different than other creams I’ve used or are currently using;  I would not repurchase.  This is pretty thick – even though it says for normal or combination skin, you might want to give it a try if your skin is dry.

Firming Collagen Day Cream [Eslor] – This smelled lovely, but was a bit on the thicker side so you just need a bit of product.  My skin didn’t feel too different, so I don’t know that I would repurchase.  I am interested in trying their eye cream, however – I am still looking for a good eye cream (suggestions welcome).

Full of Promise Tightening & Firming Neck Cream [Philosophy] – This is another line where products are hit or miss for me.  This was a miss, so I will not be repurchasing.

Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser [Suki] – I really loved this!  I purchased the full size after sampling it through Birchbox, and will definitely purchase again once I finish up some other products.  Its gentle enough that I can use it daily if I like.

BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator [Vasanti] – This was too rough for my face; I ended up diluting it with water before using it.  I would not repurchase.

Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster [Ole Henriksen] – One of my favorite (along with Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Vitamin C+ Serum) serums of all time! It absorbs quickly, with a pleasant orange scent. Will definitely repurchase, but am using another favorite at the moment.

More Skincare

Flora No. 1 Fine Radiance Face Oil [Mitchell and Peach] – It didn’t cause my face to break out, but I didn’t notice a tightening effect either.  I don’t plan on repurchasing.

Argan Oil [Josie Maran] – I’ve had the opportunity to try this several times, and its too heavy for my skin.  JM makes a light version that I haven’t tried yet, but this product might work great for those with drier skin.  I don’t plan on repurchasing.

Vicco Turmeric Vanishing Cream with Sandalwood Oil [Vicco] – I used this at night to help my face recover from the day – the sandalwood scent is a bit strong.  I will definitely be repurchasing.

Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Vitamin C+ Serum [Algenist] – My other favorite serum of all time (along with the Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster)!  I’ve already repurchased and am currently using this both am and pm – I love how it absorbs into my skin and leaves it feeling so silky.

Tourmaline Charged Radiant Skin Refiner [Aveda] – This left my skin feeling very nice, and it wasn’t too rough.  I may repurchase, but want to try some other items out first.

Enbrightenment Brightening Correcting Serum [Aveda] – I liked the feel of the serum on my skin, but didn’t notice a dramatic difference in hyper pigmentation/scarring.  This product is no longer available; suggestions welcome on products to fade hyper pigmentation/scarring.

Miracle Worker Overnight [Philosophy] – It felt nice, and my skin didn’t break out. However, I didn’t notice a difference from any of my other moisturizers, so I do not plan on repurchasing.

Resolve Pore Perfecting Primer [ULTA] – I expected this product to instantly shrink my pores, but I found that it worked best for me as a daily moisturizer as it reduced the appearance of my pores over time.  It took a while to see this result, and I had to use it daily.  I can’t speak to using it as a primer as I always wore another primer over it to visibly shrink my pores prior to foundation. I would definitely repurchase this product, but I need to work through some other products first.

Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel [Marcelle] – A nice product, and no adverse skin reactions, but nothing that was amazing.  Again, I didn’t notice a difference from any of my other moisturizers and I don’t plan on repurchasing.

Do Not Age with Dr. Brandt Triple Peptide Eye Cream [Dr. Brandt Skincare] – I didn’t feel or see anything different in my eye area.  I would not repurchase.

Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic Scrub [derma e] – This was okay, but not amazing.  There are scrubs in the same price range that I prefer.  I would not repurchase.

GREEN APPLE Age Defy Moisturizer [Juice Beauty] – I really, really, really want to like Juice Beauty products, but they just don’t work well for me.  I would not repurchase.

Flawless Skin Face Polish [Laura Mercier] – I didn’t know if I would like this, but I really did.  It left my skin feeling soft, but not raw.  I would definitely consider repurchasing this.

Luminous 3-Minute Peel [Real Chemistry] – I could definitely feel the pilling, but my skin didn’t really feel different once it was done.  I don’t think I would repurchase this again.

Keep Young and Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot [REN] – I didn’t notice my skin feeling any firmer, but it definitely left my skin feeling soft.  I think this is something that I need to try again before deciding to repurchase.

Micro-Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub [SeaRx] – This was okay, but there are other scrubs in this price range that I prefer.  I would not repurchase.

Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion [SeaRx] – Again, this was okay, but there are other lotions in this price range that I prefer.  I would not repurchase.

Pure Marula Facial Oil [Marula] – This is my favorite facial oil!  A sample is pictured, but I’ve gone through a full-size bottle, and am working my way through another one.  I will definitely be repurchasing.

Enlighten: Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum [Estee Lauder] – This was starting to work, but I only had a sample. I may or may not repurchase – I might want to try a few more different products, first.
