Makeup Junkie: Six Months of Empties…Oh My! Part III: Hair

Somehow, I collected six months (!) of empties.  My intentions were good…at one month, I thought, “Well, that’s not nearly interesting enough.”  And, at two months, “Still not quite enough…maybe next month.”  And, now, its somehow six months and nearly a full paper grocery bag later.  I don’t collect foil packets unless the item comes that way, but there are several deluxe samples – I’ll give the item name, a brief impression, and let you know whether I would repurchase the item again.  Your experience with these same products may be different than mine – that’s great!  Its awesome that there are so many products out there that we can all find what works best for us.  Having said that, if you have recommendations or suggestions, I’ll take them!

I broke up the products by category to make these more manageable – for both you and me!  The first post was on skin care and the second on body products; this post tackles the hair care products.

AgeDefy Advanced Thickening Treatment [Pantene] – I would definitely try this again, but prefer other products that do the same thing.  Its not on my list to repurchase at the moment, but I would try it again if the opportunity came up.

Bio-Cleansing Conditioner [unwash] – I’ve tried a few cleansing conditioners, but this is my favorite. Most cleansing conditioners leave my hair pretty clean for the first day, but then unclean by day two.  This Bio-Cleansing Conditioner, however, leaves my hair feeling nice and clean just like my normal routine.  I would definitely consider purchasing this again, especially for traveling.

Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine[Redken] – This is a decent hair oil.  Having said that, it did take a while to soak into the damaged ends of my hair and I’m not a fan of the scent.  I am not planning on repurchasing.

Clarifying Shampoo [Number 4 Hair] – I really liked this Clarifying Shampoo.  I use a fair number of products in my hair regularly, so was very happy to had a chance to try it through Birchbox.  I am planning on repurchasing it once I finish using up some other products.

OI/Absolute Beautifying Potion [Davines] – I originally tried this (and the next two items) through Birchbox and fell in love with this brand.  I ended up buying a travel set (pictured here) but I’m trying to use up some of my stash of hair products (its slow going when you only wash your hair twice a week).  I will definitely repurchase Davines hair products.

LOVE/Smoothing Shampoo [Davines] – I originally tried this (as well as the previous and next item) through Birchbox and fell in love with this brand.  I ended up buying a travel set (pictured here) but I’m trying to use up some of my stash of hair products (its slow going when you only wash your hair twice a week).  I will definitely repurchase Davines hair products.

ExquisiteOil Micro-Oil Shampoo [Matrix Biolage] – This was a nice shampoo, and I would definitely consider repurchasing it.  My ends are super damaged right now (I have naturally dark hair but am growing out ombre hair – the damage is real), so I feel like I want to focus on using more hydrating hair products.

Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo [BEAVER] – I actually didn’t use this as I got a message from Birchbox saying that it contained an item that required it to be reported under Prop 65.  I didn’t feel comfortable using it or donating it, especially in light of the fact that I have shampoos that I know that I like and would like to finish using up.  I won’t be repurchasing.

No Frizz Shampoo [Living Proof] – This left my hair feeling nice, but my hair doesn’t tend to frizz and I don’t think that my hair stayed cleaner for longer; I won’t be repurchasing.

No Frizz Conditioner [Living Proof] – As above: this left my hair feeling nice, but my hair doesn’t tend to frizz and I don’t think that my hair stayed cleaner for longer; I won’t be repurchasing.

damage remedy™ Intensive Restructuring Treatment [Aveda] – This worked at limiting damage to my hair – at least before I had the ombre done.  Its intensive, but not enough for the current state of my hair.  I don’t plan on repurchasing.

damage remedy™ Restructuring Conditioner [Aveda] – Like above, this worked at limiting damage to my hair – at least before I had the ombre done.  Its a gentle daily conditioner, but not enough for the current state of my hair.  I don’t plan on repurchasing.

color conserve™ Daily Color Protect [Aveda] – I probably won’t repurchase this as I wash my hair twice a week, and would prefer a product that I can add daily to my hair to protect from UV damage and color fading.

damage remedy™ Daily Hair Repair [Aveda] – I’ve already repurchased this; I use it in conjunction with several other products after I wash my hair.  Even though I use multiple products, together they leave my hair feeling smooth but not weighed down.

Protect & Oil [Beauty Protector] – I really liked this – it absorbed quickly, but left my poor parched ends smooth and happy.  The sample container made it a bit difficult to control the amount (you need very little), but I think the full size bottle that comes with a dropper will fix that.  I intend on repurchasing for days that I want to take a break from my favorite hair oil.

Protect & Detangle Spray [Beauty Protector] – The first sample I had came with a broken nozzle, so I tried it by pouring it out in my hand – it doesn’t really work well this way as the application is too heavy for my hair.  Fortunately, I got a second sample and the nozzle worked perfectly, as did the product.  It works well, and I might repurchase in the future once I use up some of my other hair products but this is not a must have for me.

Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Shampoo [brocato products] – I don’t know that this did anything special for my hair as I have been using Aveda’s damage remedy™ Restructuring Shampoo as my regular shampoo, along with the rest of the damage remedy™ system. I don’t plan to repurchase.

Strength & Shine Nourishing Dry Shampoo [Batiste Hair] – I’m almost done with another container of this, and need to stock up soon.  My hair is dark and this brushes out wonderfully.  I use it to extend the time between hair washings, to freshen up my hair after workouts, and to add volume (instead of a texturizing spray).  This is how I use it:  1. Spray it at the roots and do the layers underneath the top layer of hair (as well as under the top layer itself), 2. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, 3.  Work it through the roots with my fingers, and 4.  Brush it out and style as usual.
