Makeup Junkie: Six Months of Empties…Oh My! Part IV: Makeup, Perfume, and More!

Somehow, I collected six months (!) of empties.  My intentions were good…at one month, I thought, “Well, that’s not nearly interesting enough.”  And, at two months, “Still not quite enough…maybe next month.”  And, now, its somehow six months and nearly a full paper grocery bag later.  I don’t collect foil packets unless the item comes that way, but there are several deluxe samples – I’ll give the item name, a brief impression, and let you know whether I would repurchase the item again.  Your experience with these same products may be different than mine – that’s great!  Its awesome that there are so many products out there that we can all find what works best for us.  Having said that, if you have recommendations or suggestions, I’ll take them!

I broke up the products by category to make these more manageable – for both you and me!  The first post was on skin care, the second on body products, and the third tackled hair care products. This fourth and final post covers makeup, perfume, and a few random items that didn’t really fit any other category.

Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner [Parian Spirit] – One of my favorite brush cleaners!  It smells like oranges, and cleans my brushes quickly.  I haven’t repurchased it yet, but I plan to when my current brush cleaner runs low (my other favorite – I switch back and forth). If you are interested in trying it out, I recommend starting with the Brush Cleaning System.

The Natural: Citrus Brush Cleaner [Sephora Collection] – As it says on the Sephora website, this is the Parian Spirit formula.  See above for my thoughts on Parian Spirit’s Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner – I would definitely purchase it again.

Dual-Phase Eye Makeup Remover [MAKE] – This worked really nicely to take off eye makeup.  I won’t be repurchasing but only because I prefer a cleansing water to remove eye makeup before washing my face.

Oil Free Eye Make-Up Remover Pads [Marcelle] – These worked very nicely to take off eye makeup (even super smokey eyes and false lashes), but was very gentle on my skin.  I will repurchase as I like to use these for travel instead of bringing a liquid eye make-up remover.

Lush Fruit Lip Gloss [Bite Beauty] – This was a mini, and I’ve already repurchased the full size gloss.  Its neutral on me, a bit sticky, and feels so good! I also love the ingredients that go into this gloss – coconut, mango, and strawberry infused with seven nourishing fruit oils.

Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer [Nyx Cosmetics] – This has been touted as a dupe for the Veil Mineral Primer by Hourglass; for me, it left my skin feeling super nice but left a white cast to my skin – not cute.  I ended up using this in conjunction with any other primer (usually the Photo Finish Foundation Primer by Smashbox) to thin it out a bit.  I won’t be repurchasing – I’d rather just use the Veil Mineral Primer by Hourglass rather than mix primers every morning.

Photo Finish Foundation Primer [Smashbox] – I’ve tried this several times, and this most recent time was a travel size; I ended up cutting off the top of the travel size tube and moved the rest of the product to another container – there was a lot of product left, which is why I did it.  The primer works fine, but it doesn’t do anything special to my skin – it doesn’t fill pores, or blur imperfections, or even just feel good on my skin.  I’d rather use a primer that does one or more of those.  I don’t plan to repurchase.

pores no more® pore refiner primer [Dr. Brandt Skincare] – This does a great job of filling in my pores but that it does a lesser job of a primer in the peripheral edges of my face.  I usually end up using a second primer on top, but would rather just use one product rather than multiple ones.  I won’t be repurchasing this product.

Eyeshadow Sealer/Base [LA Splash Cosmetics] – I only used this a couple of times because it made my skin itch.  I won’t be repurchasing.

Satin Lips® Lip Balm [MaryKay] – I had this forever!  This was a great lip balm, but I only used it at night as it was in a jar.  It looks like the newer version of this item comes in a tube, but I’m not planning on repurchasing as I have a ton of lip products to use up.

MutilpEYE Lash Enhancing Primer [tarte cosmetics] – This was okay, but I did have to build it up quite a bit compared to Surversion Lash Primer by Urban Decay.  I won’t be repurchasing this.

Subversion Lash Primer [Urban Decay] – I really liked this, and purchased the full-size recently.  I don’t wear false lashes regularly, so I look for ways to build up my own lashes.  I didn’t have to use as much primer as with the MutilpEYE Lash Enhancing Primer by tarte cosmetics to get a dramatic, full lash look – this primer instantly added a lot of drama to my natural lashes, which I solidified with mascara.

Perversion [Urban Decay] – This works best with the Subversion Lash Primer; I’ve been trying it with other primers, but I don’t see as dramatic of an effect.  If that’s not the look that you are looking for, then you have more options.  I did really like this – so much so that I bought the full-size version and am currently using it on a daily basis.  The full-size wand is a bit awkward for me to use – I preferred the deluxe sample size.

Mascara [blinc] – This mascara is a tubing mascara, and I used it on my bottom lashes.  This ensured I didn’t get any flaking, and it was super easy to remove at the end of the day when I washed my face. I did buy a full size version of the Mascara Amplified as I liked the brush better, but the wand is a bit large and took some getting used to use it on my bottom lashes without looking like a hot mess.

speed brow [Benefit Cosmetics] – I’ve only used this as a setting gel (not for the pigment), and it works well for me for that purpose.  It keeps my brows tamed, but it doesn’t flake.  I would definitely repurchase this but don’t have plans to do so immediately.

Clear Brow Gel [Anastasia Beverly Hills] – In my experience, this holds better than the speed brow by Benefit Cosmetics.  I tend to use the Benefit one right after I’ve had my brows shaped and I use this one after a few weeks once the brows have started to grow out because my brows get unruly quickly.  The one drawback is that this Clear Brow Gel can flake if you put too much product on – you don’t need much, so use it sparingly. I did repurchase and am currently using this product.

Studio Precision Liquid Eyeliner [e.l.f.] – This is a dark black liquid eyeliner – it can be very runny, so you need to build it up with small amount and let it dry.  The brush is kind of hit or miss – I was looking for something a little more precise.  I also prefer a matte finish, and this more shiny.  I didn’t finish the product, and I don’t plan to repurchase.

they’re real push-up eyeliner in black [Benefit Cosmetics] – I purchased this full size product after receiving a deluxe sample when the item first launched.  I think its gotten a lot of mixed review, but I really like it.  It takes some getting used to and figuring out the best technique for the look that you want, but I really like to take this liner when I travel.  It dries to a matte finish, and now comes in several colors.  I have since purchased black, brown, and green.

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero [Urban Decay] – The 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils from Urban Decay are my favorite liners.  They apply smoothly and blend beautifully before setting; they don’t budge and come in many colors.  They don’t last in my water line (I have to use a kohl based liner for that), but are perfect other than that.  I am planning on purchasing another black (Perversion), but need to use up some other black liners first.

Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen in Vanilla Glow [Dior] – This is not a concealer, but more of a highlighting pen. You can use it as a base for strobing, or just to freshen up your skin. It is very easy to blend in to either your natural skin or foundation. This was the second time I had purchased this, and I may purchase it again in the future, but am playing with other products in the same product family right now.

‘REPLICA’ Beach Walk [MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA] – This is favorite fragrance for the summer because once it settles, I smell like the beach – like I’ve been kissed by the sun and the salty air.  I had already purchased a full size of this, but won’t turn down samples because I like it so much.

Signature [Harvey Prince Organics] – This doesn’t sit well on my skin and I don’t like the way it smells, but it doesn’t last either.  I won’t be repurchasing.

Yogini [Harvey Prince Organics] – This was okay but nothing remarkable.  Like Signature, it doesn’t last.  I won’t be repurchasing.

Chloé Eau de Parfum [Chloe] – On my skin, this settles like a floral but fresh fragrance that I really enjoy (as do the people around me, I hope!), and can wear regularly.  I did purchase the full-size bottle.

Cosmetic Cotton Rounds [Rite Aid] – These do the job but often leave behind a bit of cotton, which is a bit annoying.  I won’t be repurchasing; I prefer the quilted ones.

Holiday Face & Body Mini Wipes in Very Vanilla [Ulta] – Around the holidays, Ulta sells these for 5/$5 as part of a stocking stuffer deal – they aren’t listed on their website right now.  These are pretty good at taking off makeup, and are great for travel; I like to keep them in the car for spills, too.  They are resealable, but if they dry up, its not the end of the world – the whole pack was $1.  I’m not a huge vanilla fragrance fan, but the scent is pretty light and its okay.  I’ll probably repurchase these if they are available again this holiday season.

Anti-Bacterial Gel in Freshwater Mist [Ulta] – The scent on these is really overwhelming, and I couldn’t use them for hand sanitizing.  I did use them to clean my dirty makeup brushes while I was traveling – massage a bit into the bristles and then wipe the bristles off on a paper towel or rag, repeat if necessary.  I definitely won’t be repurchasing, but I’m glad I could repurpose them.
