Makeup Junkie: More Empties! Part IV: Makeup

Hi Everyone!  Its time for another series of empties posts.  All items were purchased by me, and as before, there will be posts for skin care, hair care, bath & body, makeup, and miscellaneous for deluxe sample size and larger packaging.  If I’ve talked about it before, I’ll try to remember to link the post below.  Enjoy and thanks for reading!

e.l.f. Studio Mascara Primer – One of the best $3 products on the market.  If you use a mascara primer, definitely try out this one.  I use it by applying two coats to my lashes by wiggling and sweeping up, shaping and curling my lashes; once its applied, I allow the product to dry a bit so that my mascara will build up better.  I will definitely repurchase this item.

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb – This might be a bit heavy for some, and a little goes a long way, but I really like it.  I gave my mom a gift set for Mother’s Day last year and she really liked the scent, too.  I’ve already repurchased it – not a full-size but a smaller travel sized product.

Maison Martin Margiela ‘REPLICA’ Beach Walk – I already have a full-size version of this scent; I love it.  Every time I can get a sample of it, I take it because I love it so much.  It reminds me of the sun and beach; it brings back such good memories on days when I’m in the office.

Maison Martin Margiela ‘REPLICA’ Lazy Sunday Morning – This is a heavier scent than ‘REPLICA’ Beach Walk, but its also quite nice.  Its not something that I see myself wearing very often, but if the scent is something that intrigues you, see if it works with your body chemistry.

Chloé Eau de Parfum – Another one that I already had a full size bottle of, but still will choose a sample if its there.  Chloé Eau de Parfum is such a classic scent, and I find myself reaching for it on cool crisp days.

Yves Saint Laurent LE TEINT TOUCHE ÉCLAT Illuminating Foundation SPF 19 – This has been my favorite foundation over the last year – I love the way it smells of fresh and green things, and the finish on my skin, which is so beautiful.  What I don’t like is the price.  I would definitely consider repurchasing, but am also on the lookout for something at a lower price point.

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ – I use Fix+ for a variety of purposes: 1. To finish my makeup – I use it after foundation and powder products but before I do my eye makeup (unless I do my eye makeup first), 2. To refresh my face – before applying makeup or throughout the day (even if I’m not wearing makeup, refrigerate it for extra refreshment), and 3. To wet a brush to apply eye shadow for a more vibrant/pigmented look.  I’ve already repurchased this product.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water – I got this in my Birchbox, but had already bought the full-sized product.  I think if I had received the sample before I purchased the full-sized item, I would not have purchased the full-size product.  It does hydrate your face, but I’ve never used it as a stand-alone primer.  Part of the reason I don’t reach for it very often is that it has an odd smell to me – I don’t care for it.

Dr. Brandt Skincare pores no more® pore refiner primer – I also got this in my Birchbox, and I think its very similar to the POREfessional Face Primer by Benefit. It filled in my pores and gave my skin a smoother appearance, but didn’t do much to control oil.  I ended up using a second primer on top to control for the oil.  I wouldn’t purchase a full-size version of this product.

Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder – For this product, you turn the container to release freshly milled powder for application; a mini kabuki brush was also included with the product.  The powder was quite fine and applied very nicely.  If I was looking for a colored powder, I would consider purchasing this one.

Mary Kay® Eyeliner – My eyeliner is quite old, so the exact product is no longer available.  It worked quite well, but not well enough to deter me from my favorite Urban Decay eyeliners.

Seche Restore – I use Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat when I do my nails; its my favorite top coat – it works super fast and leaves a beautiful glossy finish on the nails.  However, it does tend to get thick over time.  The Seche Restore works very well to thin out the thickened Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and extend the life of that product.  I will definitely repurchase it.

OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener for Soft & Thin Nails – This product was very disappointing.  I wasn’t using it very often as it started peeling off my nails after 1 day.  And then, it fell on the ground and the bottle broke open (hence the taped up bottle).  I only saved the bottle to share with you; I won’t be repurchasing this item.

theBalm® cosmetics Balm Desert® Bronzer/Blush – Another item from Birchbox!  It was quite small, but I used it while traveling in August and then some.  Once there wasn’t sufficient product for use a bronzer/blush, I used it as a eyeshadow (mostly as a crease/transition color).  I would definitely consider purchasing a full-size product in the future but have enough bronzer and blush products to last for a while.
